4" Fitter, 12" Tall, 3/4 Sandblasted Big Store Lamp Chimney (57981)

  • 4 inch fitter
  • 12 inch tall with 5 inch bulge (3.88 inch I.D.)
  • 3/4 Sandblasted Big Store Style Borosilicate Glass Chimney
  • Fits Large Central Draft or Rayo type Big Store Burners

4 inch by 12 inch height with a 5 inch bulge, 3/4 sandblasted Big Store Lamp Chimney. Fits large central draft or Rayo type big store burners.

Over the years people have tried different techniques to soften the light coming from table lamps and lanterns by applying a "frosting" to the glass lamp chimney that encloses the source of illumination. Generally speaking, three types of frostings have been used over the years with varying degrees of success. Two inexpensive techniques are acid etching and cold-paint. Both work well in subduing harsh light but both finishes are quite fragile and cannot be cleaned without scratching or discoloring the "frost". If your source of illumination is a kerosene burner, you will find that cleaning the soot from your frosted chimney without damaging the finish is almost impossible.
On the other hand, sandblasting is a vastly superior method compared to acid etching or cold-paint. A sandblasted finish will not scratch and may be cleaned vigorously without marring the surface of the glass.
If handled carefully, our sandblasted borosilicate glass chimneys should last indefinitely even on a kerosene lamp.
